ACCREU Workshop on Strategies and barriers to climate change adaptation for food-water-biodiversity for the Human-Nature systems in Europe

As a part of the ACCREU research project, CMCC is organizing an on-line Workshop on strategies and barriers to climate change adaptation for food-water-biodiversity for the Human-Nature systems in Europe. The workshop will take place on 13 March from 14:00-17.00 (CET).

At this workshop we will introduce the ACCREU project and three of its case studies (Ebro River Basin, Thaya River Basin, Oasi Alberoni in Venice), highlighting key challenges for the governance of biodiversity conservation and of water resources. Participants will participate in breakout discussions to identify financial, institutional, and economic trade-offs and barriers, as well as success stories from different European case studies. The session will conclude with a recap of key insights on good practice solutions, benefits and trade-offs related to different adaptation options, which will be distilled and published, so to successively inform other adaptation actions across Europe.

The ACCREU project focuses on the economic costs of climate change and the costs and benefits of adaptation in Europe, with consideration of the global context. Amongst other objectives, ACCREU aims to co-design and co-deliver a comprehensive assessment of these costs across sectors, countries, and sub-national regions under different climate and socio-economic scenarios. The project is coordinated by the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) in Italy and involves a consortium of 14 leading climate research institutes from countries across Europe. The project began in June 2023 and will take place over a three and half year period.

Details about the agenda with a participation link will be shared in the coming days with participants.

ACCREU workshop series are organised according to the different ‘adaptation decision type’ (adaptation themes). These workshops will explore the scalability of adaptation strategies, as well as key barriers and opportunities.
