ACCREU results on modelling human coastal adaptation decisions presented at CBC2026

At the CBC2026 Connecting Biodiversity, Climate, and Human Behaviour conference held in Leipzig from 21 to 24 September, Sebastiano Bacca presented the Global Climate Forum’s latest work from the ACCREU project during Session S12, New Modeling Approaches to Integrate CBC. The conference brought together researchers working at the interface of biodiversity, climate change, and human behaviour, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to understanding and modelling the complex interactions between social and ecological systems.

GCF presentation explored how to model human coastal adaptation decisions alongside the responses of coastal wetland ecosystems, with a particular focus on the feedback loops that emerge between human behaviour and ecosystem dynamics. Preliminary results and discussed the potential of these integrated modelling approaches to better capture the complexity and interdependence of human-environment interactions in coastal systems were also presented. Overall, we found that nature-based adaptation is the economically optimal choice along most of the wetland coastline.
